Aerospace Medical Technician
Key Responsibilities
Medical Case Review and Evaluation
Review medical documentation and physical examination records submitted from worldwide Air Force accession sources including USAFA, ROTC, MEPS, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and DoD MERB.
Evaluate applicant medical histories and determine applicability of Air Force medical standards and waiver policies.
Provide recommendations to Government medical leadership regarding accession medical determinations and waiver eligibility.
Prepare medical summaries detailing applicant medical history and applicability of relevant standards.
Case Management and Data Processing
Enter and maintain accurate case information in AFAC medical certification databases within established timelines.
Track cases throughout the entire medical review and adjudication process.
Coordinate with medical consultants, military treatment facilities, and specialty experts to resolve complex cases.
Maintain communication with stakeholders regarding case status and required documentation.
Regulatory Compliance and Standards Application
Apply and interpret applicable DoD and Air Force medical standards, policies, and guidance, including but not limited to:
DAFMAN 48-123 – Medical Examination and Standards
DAFMAN 48-149 – Flight and Operational Medicine Program
DoDI 6130.03 – Medical Standards for Military Service
AF Waiver Guide and related directives.
Ensure all documentation and communications comply with HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements.
Administrative and Reporting Support
Prepare administrative documentation, reports, and correspondence related to medical certification and waiver cases.
Develop presentations or briefings on accession medical standards and case trends when requested.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with Air Force records management requirements.
Collaboration and Coordination
Coordinate medical evaluations with military treatment facilities including Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center and San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Communicate with Air Force medical consultants and program stakeholders across the enterprise.
Support AMWD leadership in maintaining consistency and compliance with Air Force accession medical policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
Minimum four (4) years of experience within the last ten (10) years performing physical standards case management or related military healthcare operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of Air Force accession medical standards and occupational suitability determinations.
Experience evaluating complex medical cases and applying military medical regulations and policies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and government database systems.
Education and Training
Completion of Air Force Aerospace Medical Technician training or Flight and Operational Medical Technician technical training, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and apply regulatory guidance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to summarize medical findings clearly.
Strong analytical, organizational, and customer service skills.
